A Thank You Quilt

My wonderful neighbors have done so much for us in the one year that we have been neighbors. They have let us come over, have dinner, drink wine, let the kids play, give us stuff, and even watched our cat while on vacation. They are just wonderful amazing neighbors. I am so thankful for everything they have done for us. I wanted to take some time to make them a thank you quilt. I pulled a bunch of fabric out, and finally came across this pile of green, blue, and purples. I have been saving it for no particular reason, just haven't found anything to use it for. When I came across it, I thought this will be perfect.

The colors and patterns have feminine and masculine colors and designs. The pieces of fabric came in squares, so I just paired them together (as randomly as I could), and then stitched down the left and right of the center. I then cut the squares down that center and ironed them open.

Once I had a ton of squares with two different fabric on either side, I laid out a front and a back.

I added some higher loft batting. I did not use my usual cotton batting as I wanted them to be able to use it as a blanket/quilt.

Once it was quilted up and the binding was on, I had to make sure I placed a label on it, and it was done!

The quilting was mostly geometric shapes. I did triangles, circles, lines, trapezoid, and curved lines.

The colors are so vibrant, these photos don't do justice! The purple is a dark purple with a black floral pattern. The green is more of a lime green, and the blue is a nice teal and light blue.

They loved the quilt, and I am just glad I could give them something handmade and special.

August Give Thanks, Week 2

August 8:
     Thankful for wonderful neighbors who will come over and ask if we want to hangout, have dinner with them, and also who care and are genuinely wonderful kind caring friends.

August 9:
     Thankful for quick easy simple microwave/oven meals that all you do is punch in a number and bam, its ready! I can not tell you how much I did not want to cook tonight.

August 10:
     I am by far and forever thankful for my wonderful husband and kids. It was a wonderful day of family time and a little shopping as well, but the memories we are making will hopefully last a life time.

August 11:
     Thankful for my husband spoiling me with starbucks coffee! He is the best, and really knows how to make a bad day better with starbucks. He is such a keeper.

August 12:
     Today I am so thankful for adult conversation. You do not understand how nice it is to talk to another adult about absolutely nothing and everything; instead of a 2 year old and 1 year old! Best day ever.

August 13:
     Today I am thankful for my Mother in law. She has been an amazing MIL to me, and a wonderful grandma to my kids. I really lucked out when I married my husband. Happy Birthday Corinne!

August 14:
     Thankful for all my wonderful friends and family who helped lift my spirits today. I appreciated every single one.

July Give Thanks, Week 4

July 22:
     Thankful today for the connection I never expect to have. I never thought this one person I would ever have a connection with, and today proved I was so wrong. Its great to realize we are wrong and that friendships can come from anywhere.

July 23:
     Thankful that my 1 year old still wants to take a nap on my chest. As a mother, those are the best moments ever.

July 24:
     Attempted making my own labels and sewing them on to my projects today. SOOO Thankful they worked! Best feeling ever.

July 25:
      Thankful for a wonderful neighbor who can bring her kids over and let them play, while we have some grown up conversation. I am thankful for the "normal" conversation.

July 26:
      Thankful for a wonderful husband who watched the kids all day, while letting me sew a quilt together! Happy quilting mommy.

July 27:
      Thankful for the chocolate chips that are currently being made by my husband, and being consumed by the rest of us. YUM!

July 28:
      Simply thankful for a great appointment that went a lot better then I ever could have expected.

June Give Thanks, Week 3

June 15:
     Happy Father's Day to all the amazing fathers out there. Today is the day that we all thank our wonderful fathers; sadly I do not have one to thank. Instead I have an amazing, wonderful, inspiring, uplifting, supportive, and loving husband who takes care of our kids and does a damn good job at it, and that (or rather, who) I am thankful for.

June 16:
     I love when I have a chance to do a little sewing. Its my happy place. I am so excited and really thankful to have finished a door hanging project that has been in the works for awhile now. I finally finished it and was able to hang it up today!

June 17:
     Weight loss has been a huge part of each and every day this year so far. I wanted to take a moment today to be thankful for each small and large weight loss. Even though some weeks I loose a few ounces and others I loose 5 pounds; we all need to remember that its just another step forward to a healthier goal and healthier life style. Work hard and enjoy the small (and large) victories!

June 18:
     Started a new sewing project today, and of course its for our master bedroom decor. I can not wait to finish it. With that, I am so thankful to my husband for letting me go crazy and re-do our master bedroom bedding/decor. I can not wait to get the quilting tool I need to make our blanket!!! I am so thankful for these fun and wonderful projects!!!

June 19:
     I am so thankful that my oldest son loves to help me in the kitchen. He sees me starting to get the chocolate chip cookie dough items out and he asks/signs "help?" I love that he wants to crack the eggs, and pour the flour in. I am so glad he will have these fun memories of making cookies with us.

June 20:
      I am so lucky and thankful for my amazing neighbor. She has a daughter my sons age and they absolutely love to play together. I love how they just run each other out, and he always sleeps great after they hang out. I cant thank her enough for all the information she gives me about the community, parties, and local events. She is by far one of the best neighbors I have had, ever!

June 21:
     Thankful beyond thankful for being able to attend a new group today. Not only did my oldest get to play at a playground, but I was able to meet a few other moms, and snag a ring sling for our vacation! I can not wait to try the ring sling out and hopefully I end up loving it (as well as little man). So happy I finally am getting out into the community and exploring the world outside my house (don't judge, I am a hermit.)
